Interview met Black Mass regisseur Scott Cooper

Vanaf 15 oktober zal Black Mass in de Nederlandse bioscopen te zien zijn. Deze is gebaseerd op het leven van Whitey Bulger die bijna drie decennia Boston in zijn greep hield met intimidatie en moord. Dit deed hij onder anderen op mensen die spraken met de politie, alleen wat niemand wist is dat Bulger zelf ook een vieze snitch was die voor de FBI werkte en zo zijn concurrentie kon weg werken en ongestraft zijn misdaden uitvoeren. Nu had de website ComingSoon een interview met de regisseur Scott Cooper en daar van kan je hier onder alvast een stukje lezen.


CS: I think if you make a movie like this, you don't want to glorify crime, but he was larger than life and as like you say, there must have been people in that area, those who knew or didn't know him, that looked up to him.

Cooper:
Yeah. I came across many people that-because I have a lot of non-actors in the film-and a couple of them had worked for Whitey, seeing really all different sides. I wanted to put forth the multifaceted portrait of this man, but again, you're making a narrative feature. It's not in service as a documentary. I don't think people come to movies for facts. I think they come for psychological truth and humanity and emotion.
