In 1981 maakt David Cronenberg de erg bizarre en inmiddels legendarische cult klassieker Scanners, een horror film waarin mensen met mentale krachten hun wil konden opleggen en hoofden laten ontploffen. Helaas kwamen er nog een paar matige vervolgen en werd gisteren op de Comic Con bekend dat de franchise een TV serie gaat krijgen. Ik hou me hart vast.

Inspired in part by the success of genre shows like The Walking Dead and True Blood, Dimension Films is now developing a Scanners TV series. Based on the 1981 David Cronenberg movie, Scanners is about a select few who have extraordinary psychic powers - and like to use them to blow up people's heads. More after the break.

Originally, Dimension planned on rebooting the franchise with a film written by David Goyer. Goyer will not be involved with the series, but Alexandre Aja will be on board as executive producer, and may potentially direct the pilot.
