De website Mania.com is zo vriendelijk geweest om in de aanloop naar Halloween deze top tien met beste horror film remakes te maken. Helaas ontbreken Halloween (2007) van Rob Zombie en Dawn of the Dead (2004) van Zack Schnyder er op. Maar goed, ik ga voor de nummer één van de lijst.

The Thing isn't just the greatest horror movie remake, but also the greatest horror movie of any kind ever made. It looked like anything but when it was first released, however. Critics thoroughly vilified it, an incident I personally use as a cautionary example about how wrong critics can be. Carpenter captured horror on every conceivable level - bloodless suspense, social paranoia, body mutilation, and some of the most gruesomely ingenious monster effects ever put on film - and wrapped it in an ice cold package aimed straight at the base of our spines. The prequel can't match it, but that's no cause for shame: nothing yet put on film can.
