Zes hele vreemde ingame reclames

1. Obama in Burnout Paradise

f you have friends ages 22-28, look around at them. Half of those jerks didn't vote in 2004. Statistically, the youth bracket is the least reliable for turnout. Which is why it was kind of weird when President Obama pushed so hard for that demographic with his advertisements, including one in Burnout Paradise. It's pretty much just Obama's face on a virtual billboard, but it's weird for a President's campaign team to go the route of video game advertising, and particularly with the Burnout crowd at that. Does the Democratic party appeal to street racing youth with pimped out rides?

We'll call this one a draw based on the advertisement's goal. While youth votes did take a swing upward in 2008, it wasn't by much; a marginal 1-6 percent increase from 2004. And it's unlikely that the increase was caused by all those Burnout fans taking to the streets in their sweet cars to vote. But hey, Obama got in. He's the President now, so score one for in-game advertisements, and one for gamers. Why the gamer point? Without getting too much into politics, Obama has been one of the most gamer-friendly occupants of the Oval Office of all time.

While it's true he makes remarks reminding us to not "spend every waking hour in front of the TV or with the Xbox," that's pretty... sane, actually. We all love video games, but the idea that we should be responsible for our hobbies isn't exactly an anti-video game crusade.

No, the person with that agenda would be this guy. And he's funny enough I don't even need to write a Dorklyst explaining why.
