Will this help to install Linux on the PS3 again and use the full power (graphics chip)?

You'd still need proper drivers to use the RSX, this could still help replacing lv2 by a linux kernel though.

I have to ask though, how long before we see homebrew on the system and maybe a port of XBMC? Also, how easy is it to say restore Other OS (or similar) using this and will Sony be able to ban you online for its use even if it's not connected (assuming they don't block it in a system software update)?

I can't really answer that considering we are not handling any kind of XBMC port ourselves, XBMC is open sourced though so it's up to everyone to contribute. Restoring Other OS (as it was before 3.21) would require downgrading because we can't patch lv1 which had otheros support removed. Downgrading is however technically doable. Sony can (bot I am not sure they will) ban you online at any time they see fit, they have ways to detect what titles you run on your console upon login and playing, they might also have ways we don't know of, it is safer not using your console online with this hack.
