Ke Huy Quan reageerd op 'Racisme' in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

In Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom schitterd Ke Huy Quan (ook bekend als Data in The Goonies en recent als Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once) als Short Round, de grappige Aziatische sidekick van Indiana Jones.

Maar zoals het tegenwoordig gaat is dat RACISME!! want zijn rol was volgens de woke gemeenschap stereo type en overdreven en gilde ze moord en brand. Nou blijkt dat Key Huy Quan hier zelf helemaal geen probleem mee heeft en ook vertelde in dit interview met de krant The Guardian dat je de film in zijn tijdsbeeld moet zien en dat Steven Spielberg zelfs baanbrekende was door een jonge Aziaat in een grote rol in een Hollywood Blockbuster had gezet.


But Quan rebuts any suggestions that the film is problematic. “We're talking about something that was done almost 40 years ago. It was a different time. It's so hard to judge something so many years later. I have nothing but fond memories. I really don't have anything negative to say about it.”

And Short Round was a groundbreaking character, he says. “Spielberg was the first person to put an Asian face in a Hollywood blockbuster. Short Round is funny, he's courageous, he saves Indy's ass.” The role, Quan argues, represented a huge step forward for Asian representation. “That was a rarity then. For many years after that, we were back to square one.”
